50 years ago (1962)

Winners of Everett Bridge Club’s master point charity game this week were the Ed Syltes, first; Cecil Moore and Eva Herriot, second; T. Hammond and E. Burton, third, north-south; the Oliver Ronkens, first; the Charles Horns, second, and the Earl Douglases, third, east-west.

Included among the youngsters certain to be at the Snohomish County Evergreen Fair at Monroe the end of next month was Jolene Ann (Jodi) Fredrickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Fredrickson, 1802 Hoyt Ave. She was an entry in the Fair’s baby contest.

25 years ago (1987)

Everett took its first step toward creating a new park on the Snohomish River that could help revitalize the entire riverfront area. The city council established a $344,000 fund to begin making the planned Riverfront Park on Smith Island a reality. The first phase of the project would provide a boat launch, mooring and a parking lot.

Crews of the state Department of Ecology Youth Corps, all from the Marysville and Monroe areas, were collecting trash along Interstate 5 and Highway 2, filling hundreds of familiar blue and white bags seen lining the shoulders. Among them were Jeff Hunt and Andrea Benson.
