50 years ago (1962)
Eleven pages of today’s paper were given over to the Everett Elks Club and the dedication of its remodeled building, which lasted from today until the April 15. With 620 new members, the new total membership was 4,200. Bob Graff was exalted ruler and Harry Botesch was immediate past exalted ruler.
Hans Gerome Solie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Solie, was 2 years old today. He had a 10-month old sister, Katherine. Grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Newcomb and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Solie, all of Everett. Great-grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Hans J. Solie, Everett, and Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Dawson, Marysville.
25 years ago (1987)
Eight Herald staff members were honored for journalistic achievement at the Washington Press Association’s annual competition at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel. They were Ann Beckman, Linda Bryant, Suki Dardarian, Mark Harden, Penny Parker, Sharon Salyer, Sharon Wootton and Diane Wright.
Ron Olsen posted victories in the triple jump, high jump and long jump to power Stanwood’s boys past second-place Rainier Beach, 96-85, in the 16-team Bob Dorr Invitational track and field meet in Bellingham.
