50 years ago (1961)
Western Gear Corporation announced today it was moving its downtown Seattle Heavy Products Division to new and larger facilities at Everett as a major step in a growth and expansion program. Formal announcement of the move was explained by L.A. “Bud” Myhre, vice president and newly appointed manager of the division.
The name of Ken Scott, a Cascade High School junior, could be added to the list of Everett’s future bowling kings. He rolled a 668 series, highlighted by a 257, at Glacier Lanes.
25 years ago (1986)
Joe Lehman of Monroe was tapped to become director of Washington state’s adult prisons. Since 1981, Lehman had been assistant director in charge of the state reformatory and honor farm, Twin Rivers Corrections Center and the Special Offender Center, all at Monroe; and Indian Ridge Corrections Center near Arlington.
A $50,000 fundraising campaign was under way for Counterpoint, the south Snohomish County community mental health center, to benefit its new treatment center. The facility was under construction and the money from the campaign would go toward furnishings.
