50 YEARS AGO (1960)

New teachers at View Ridge Elementary School were Rose Marie Saad and Evelyn Beard, second and third grade, respectively. Thomas Parry, fifth-grade teacher, was the only addition to the Whittier staff. New at North Junior were Richard Shideler, art; Margaret Hillyard, history, and Gayle Egge, seventh grade.

The Rev. Emerson Pent and family, who were leaving the ministry of Bethel Baptist Church after Sept. 11, would be honored at a reception at the church. All members and friends of Bethel were invited to attend.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

Among the 600,000 who visited the Evergreen State Fair this past week was Charles Taylor, retired Monroe dairyman and a member of the fair’s board of directors from 1946 to 1971. Now a resident of Lacey, he described the fair’s growth as beyond his wildest dreams.

William A. Westall of Monroe was promoted in the Air Force to the rank of senior master sergeant. He was an avionic systems superintendent in South Korea. Also in the Air Force, 1st Lt. Robin L. Rada of Stanwood graduated from a squadron officer school at Maxwell AFB, Ala.
