What it is: A two-part kit from the Packing Genius line by Kiva Designs eliminates the need for those quart resealable plastic bags. The kit features a pouch made from superlight, 100 percent recycled fabric. Stuff nonliquid items in that.

The second pouch is clear plastic, detachable, has a large zippered opening and is good for all those 3-ounce-or-less bottles. The clear pouch measures roughly the same size as a TSA-accepted quart plastic bag. It attaches to the fabric portion of the kit with a zipper and gripper snap fastener. A hook allows you to hang the kit in the bathroom.

The good: I had no problem moving through U.S. or international airport security. Once, I unzipped the plastic pouch from the fabric pouch and set it atop my carry-on for its trip through the X-ray. A second time, I set the kit, plastic pouch up, in the bin, and security had no trouble checking it. The kit’s soft structure makes it easy to pack in a carry-on case. And, as always, it’s helpful to pack dry items separate from potentially leaky liquids.

The bad: The zippers (four), fasteners and pockets within compartments can be confusing until you figure out how to make the kit work for you.

Cost: $29.95.
