Ways to make the most of your New Year’s weekend

Take a hike: Start the New Year off right by taking a hike as part of First Day Hike at a Washington state park. It’s part of a campaign to promote year-round use of the nation’s state park systems and encourage healthy living. This year, three Washington state parks are offering free guided walks Sunday with a cup of hot cocoa afterward. The hikes are at Deception Pass State Park, Oak Harbor; Fields Spring State Park, Anatone; and Lake Sylvia State Park, Montesano. For more info, read our story here.

Take the kids: The Imagine Children’s Museum has a Rockin New Year’s Eve party from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The event is free to members; general admission is $7.95. Children 12 months and under free. The event will celebrate New Years around the world with music and dance. Kids can make party accessories including 2012 glasses, crazy hats, party poppers, noise makers and more. Find more details here.

Catch a concert: Edmonds bluesman LeRoy Bell, who was a finalist on Fox-TV’s “X Factor,” will play a New Year’s Eve concert at The Moore Theatre in Seattle. Find details in our story here.

Another concert: Get ready to hoot and holler as renowned country artist Collin Raye headlines a New Year’s Eve bash at the Historic Everett Theatre. The concert also will feature local acts Cookie and the Cutters, More America, Smitton and Steve and Lucette Pearson. Read more in our story here.

Boom! The Space Needle fireworks are quite a show. Catch them at midnight from many areas around Seattle. Or curl up on your couch and enjoy them from the comfort of your home on TV. This year’s display will have a space theme and you can catch them on TV on KING-5. Read more here.
