Fair for all: The Evergreen State Fair is in full swing through the weekend and beyond. Take a hike: Summer won’t last forever. Make the most of it by trying out one of these 8 hikes, ranging from easy to strenuous. All are close enough to make it a day trip from Snohomish County. Read about them here.

World record: The Everett and Monroe high school lacrosse teams will attempt to break the record for the longest lacrosse game ever played. They start at 7:30 p.m. Friday and plan to play until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kasch Park in south Everett. The event is open to the public from 7:30-11 p.m. on Friday, and again at 7 a.m. on Saturday. No public admission while the park is closed.

Free park day: Admission fees are waived at national parks on Sunday to celebrate the National Park Service’s birthday. Around here, Olympic and Rainier are the big national parks. North Cascades does not charge an entry fee. Get more info here. If you’re heading to Rainier, here are a few hikes that are worth the effort.
