Weekend reading: A real-life ‘Fox and the Hound’

Happy weekend! Here’s some reading material to enjoy. Please enjoy it with a warm beverage (six delicious ideas here.) It’s cold outside. And inside.

In a Norwegian Forest, a fox and a dog are living out a real-life “Fox and the Hound” story. The dog and the wild fox are playmates, and Torgeir Berge has captured some stunning photos of them together. There are plans to make a children’s book in the works. Read more about the pair here and see more of Berge’s photos here.

Photographer Alexey Kljatov has stunning photos of snowflakes in exquisite detail. See many more on his Flickr stream or read about his techniques.

And now I bet you’re wondering how snowflakes form. I know I was. NOAA has the answers here. EarthSky also offer answers, and some interesting diagrams, here. And if you’re really geeky, check out this scientific paper on the physics of snow crystals.

Photographer John Scurlock lives near Rockport. He enjoys aerial photography and has some stunning photos of fire lookouts, as seen from the air. Read more about the photos at Adventures NW and see even more of his work at his website.

Next up, here’s some very entertaining footage of a young eagle stealing a wildlife camera. You can see what it would be like to be an eagle’s dinner. Hang around until the eagle puts down the camera and starts to peck at it. “Hey! You’re not very tasty!” Read more here.
