‘Friend’ ties up Everett woman, takes car, credit cards

EVERETT — Some friend he turned out to be.

A woman, 18, said she went to an acquaintance’s apartment south of Everett where he bound her wrists and ankles and stole her car and credit cards before getting her to reveal her PIN number.

The woman talked to Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies early Monday morning after escaping from where she was being held and knocking on the door of a neighboring apartment in the 500 block of 132nd Street SW.

When a deputy arrived, she was sitting with her wrists still bound behind her with a yellow cord, according to court papers.

The suspect, 21, was gone when police arrived. Later, he told a deputy he was broke, being evicted from his apartment and had been drinking. He said he formulated a plan to tie up his friend, take her credit cards and car and leave.

He told deputies he was nearing California when he decided he should turn back.

He allegedly used the woman’s debit card until he could not withdraw any more money. He told police he threw her credit cards out the window along the way.

On Wednesday, Everett police spotted the woman’s car, which had been reported stolen. The suspect allegedly ran away.

A police dog was used the track the man. He called 911 from his cell phone to turn himself in, “partly because he injured himself jumping over a fence,” court papers said.

The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of kidnapping and robbery. He also faces unrelated warrants for cyberstalking and violating an anti-harassment order.
