BELLINGHAM — One of the Bellingham robbery suspects wounded in a shootout with officers has been transferred to a Seattle hospital and the other man has been jailed.
The most-seriously wounded man was identified by the Whatcom County sheriff’s office as 20-year-old Pastor Alberto Lopez-Franco of Brewster. He was the driver of the car that fled a Bellingham gas station robbery. Deputies said the other man was an accomplice and passenger in the car, 25-year-old Rafael Martinez-Garcia of Cheney.
The Bellingham Herald reported the men are suspected of robbing the gas station Thursday and then firing a shotgun at police and deputies during a chase up the Mount Baker Highway.
The speeding car crashed and both suspects were wounded in a shootout with officers. No officers were injured.
