131 Spokane city employees make more than $100,000

SPOKANE— The average annual income for city of Spokane employees is $64,000. That’s up from $59,000 three years ago and it compares with the median household income in Spokane County of $45,000 a year.

KREM found that 131 of the city’s 2,000 employees make more than $100,000 year. The fire department had 42 employees with six-figure salaries last year and the police department had 18.

City spokeswoman Marlene Feist says city employee wages have gone up faster than private sector wages in recent years and that’s a concern to the mayor and city council.
