Whidbey Island Naval Air Station plans to host a ceremony to mark the end of service by the Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron VQ22, the “Rangers.” The event is set for May 17 at the base.
Established in 1955 in Morocco, VQ-2 is one of two electronic warfare intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance squadrons that conducted worldwide missions. The Rangers transferred to Whidbey Island in 2005. Most active duty VQ-2 personnel will join the VQ-1 squadron.
Everett Veterans Center plans a resource fair and market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18 at the center, 3311 Wetmore Ave.
Veterans will have the opportunity to learn about benefits, jobs, education, counseling and community assistance. A barbecue is planned, along with activities for children. Veterans also could have a chance to sell artwork, baked goods and more.

A regional informational event to help students better understand the nomination and application process for military service academies is set for 6:30 p.m. May 22 in the Mount Vernon City Council chambers, 910 Cleveland Ave.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Timothy Laux, son of Jennifer Laux of Post Falls, Idaho, and George Laux of Bothell, has completed naval nuclear power training and is now qualified to work as a nuclear operator. Laux is a 2006 graduate of Post Falls Christian Academy. He joined the Navy in March 2010.
Army Pvt. Joshua D. Amick has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Amick is the son of Theresa Amick of Marysville. He is a 2004 graduate of Mariner High School.
