Granite Falls: Fire levy vote planned in fallSnohomish County Fire District 17 in Granite Falls has decided to ask voters for an emergency medical service levy this fall.
The board of commissioners approved the measure at last week’s meeting.
If the plan is passed by voters, the district would keep the current levy rate at 50 cents per $1,000 in property value. The owner of a $200,000 house would pay $100 a year.
The current levy is set to expire next year.

Lake Stevens: New associate principal hiredThe Lake Stevens School District has hired former Mukilteo science teacher Susan Songstad as an associate principal for Hillcrest and Sunnycrest elementary school. The position is new to the district. Songstad is expected to split her time between the two schools, each of which has more than 700 students. Her job includes coordinating curriculum and supervising and evaluating staff.
Marysville: Volunteers soughtMarysville police are looking for volunteers, particularly in crime prevention. The volunteers help with school safety patrols and vacation home checks, event parking, community events, and other roles.
Applicants must be 18 years or older and pass a background check.
“The program also asks that volunteers be kind, friendly, energetic, willing to help people, and able to maintain confidential information,” according to the news release.

Monroe: Road closures expectedTwo road closures are expected in Monroe this week.
Dickinson Road is set to shut down between West Columbia Street and Park Lane from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily through Thursday. West Columbia Street also is scheduled to close between Dickinson Road and the west side of St. Mary’s Church from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. through Thursday.
