Marysville: Test to be a state trooper

The Washington State Patrol plans to offer testing in Marysville in February for people interested in becoming troopers.

The testing is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Feb. 2 at Marysville Getchell High School. The test includes written and physical portions.

The agency hopes to train 134 new troopers in 2013.

Army Reserve unit command change

A historic change of command ceremony at the 364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday in Marysville.

Brig. Gen. Jonathan G. Ives, who has commanded the unit since its formation in 2009, is leaving to become the deputy commanding general of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, a U.S. Army Reserve unit in New Orleans.

Brig. Gen. I. Neal Black, the 364th ESC’s new commanding general, comes to the Puget Sound Sustainers after serving as deputy commander for mobilization at the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Mukilteo: Plastic bag ban in force

On New Year’s day the city’s ban on plastic bags went into effect.

The new city rule prohibits businesses, in most cases, from giving customers single-use plastic bags at checkout counters.

Businesses are allowed to offer bags that are reusable or made from recyclable paper. Exceptions include plastic bags used for carry-out food, dry cleaner bags and bags used inside stores for customers to bag produce and meat.
