Marysville: Dog wash will be held Saturday

Scrub-A-Mutt is holding its fifth annual fundraising dog wash on Saturday.

The nonprofit raises money for Old Dog Haven, Everett Animal Shelter and NOAH. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Strawberry Fields Park, 6100 152nd St. NE, next to the Marysville Off Leash Dog Park.

The first 300 dogs receive a goodie bag. Donations of $5 to wash small dogs, $10 for large dogs and $5 for nail trims are suggested. In addition to the annual fundraising dog wash and nail trims, a K9 demonstration provided by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s department and two additional dog demonstrations are scheduled.

Oak Harbor: Navy extends comment time

The Navy will take comments until Aug. 31 about a transition from the aging EA-6B Prowler aircraft to the newer EA-18G Growler jets by land-based squadrons at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.

At the urging of Island County officials, the Navy is encouraging people to continue to comment on the plans, which by 2014 would clear the way for a reserve expeditionary electronic attack squadron to move from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to join the three other land-based squadrons at Whidbey Island.

The expeditionary EA-18G squadrons would increase to five aircraft each. Also proposed is the addition of 11 Growler jets to the fleet replacement squadron that supports the expeditionary units.

Expeditionary squadrons, unlike fleet squadrons, are not required to conduct carrier landing practice training on the outlying airfield near Coupeville because they do not deploy on aircraft carriers. There would be no change in the training programs, the locations of flight operations or the ratio of daytime to nighttime flight operations at Ault Field, Navy officials said.

Printed copies of the Navy’s draft environmental assessment are available at the Oak Harbor, Coupeville, La Conner and Anacortes libraries and online at http://tinyurl.com/d3f7plt.
