Index: meeting on Index-Galena Road
People have a chance to comment on a plan to rebuild Index-Galena Road at a meeting scheduled Feb. 1 in Monroe.
The road in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest has been closed about 5 miles east of Index since flooding in late 2006. Major repairs are expected to start in 2015.
The upcoming meeting is part of the federal environmental review for the roadwork. It’s scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Park Place Middle School, 1408 W Main St., Monroe.
No formal presentation is planned, though people will have the chance to see exhibits and talk to the project team.

Everett: Council to vote on zoning changes
The Everett City Council is scheduled to vote on two changes to the city’s comprehensive plan Wednesday at its regular 6:30 p.m. meeting that would rezone two properties as park land.
The first would change 15 acres south of Everett Mall near Bruskrud Road that’s planned for a passive park. A state board decided the city can atone for building a fire station near Silver Lake on land that was supposed to remain a park by offering another piece of land for recreation. Part of this land is intended to satisfy that requirement.
The second proposal would change half an acre next to Edgewater Park, near the corner of the Mukilteo Boulevard and Sound Avenue. The city purchased that land to expand the park.

Donate cellphones for violence victims
Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is collecting old cellphones to recycle. Phones still in good shape can be used to call 911 even without a service contract.
Old phones that are broken or missing pieces or chargers are welcome. Those phones can be sent to recyclers, who will pay 50 cents to $20 a piece. That money is used to fund domestic violence programs and services.
Phones may be dropped off at the Domestic Violence Services office at 1310 Pacific Avenue, Suite 5, in Everett. Other locations may be available.
