Arlington: Tree planting SaturdayA community Arbor Day tree planting and nature event will be held Saturday at Country Charm Park starting at 9 a.m. Featured activities will include a bird walk hosted by the Pilchuck Audubon Society, a presentation naming Arlington a Tree City for 2013, and nature and activity booths for both children and adults. In addition to a number of evergreen trees being planted, a special memorial tree for victims of the Oso mudslide will be planted.
Country Charm Park is at 604 E Gilman St. Water, snacks, tools and gloves will be provided for tree planters. For more information, call 360-403-3448.
Marysville: Pride awardsThe Pride of Marysville Neighborhood Improvement Program is now accepting nominations of home and business owners that improve the appearance of their properties. Nominees are judged on visual enhancement, preservation of the local character, improvements, or enhancement of the environment. Nominations will be accepted through June 6, and a committee will select the winners.
To nominate a home or business, a form is available at marysvillewa.gov/prideawards, or nominations can be sent with pictures to dbuell@marysvillewa.gov. Winners will receive an engraved metal yard or building marker.
Snohomish: Lane closures todayThe city of Snohomish is advising drivers to expect traffic delays through today.
Street work at Second Street and Lincoln Avenue was scheduled to begin Monday and continue through today.
The intersection is expected to close from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for an asphalt overlay. A detour through Third Street via Maple and Pine avenues is set.
Temporary lane closures are scheduled as this work is performed.
The sidewalk also is closed during the construction.
The schedule is dependent on the weather.
The work puts the Second Street and Lincoln Avenue Traffic Signal Project closer to completion.
The city received two grants for the construction.
