Arrest after chase in Everett isn’t the first for suspect

EVERETT — A man suspected of ramming a police car and racing through residential neighborhoods and downtown Everett on Friday afternoon has a previous conviction for attempting to elude.

A Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office task force that rounds up felons wanted on warrants was trying to arrest the Everett man, 27, at 18th Street and Baker Avenue in north Everett shortly after 3 p.m.

Joshua D. Dalton later was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on Friday. His street name is “West Coast,” according to court documents.

As law officers with guns drawn approached him, Dalton allegedly put his car in reverse and accelerated, court papers said. The Honda Civic he was driving hit a patrol car, denting its bumper and disabling its emergency lights.

Deputies followed the Honda.

The driver reportedly ran several stop signs and stop lights.

At one point, the Honda allegedly blew through a stop sign to get onto Broadway and narrowly missed causing a head-on crash, deputies wrote in a report.

Dalton was estimated to be driving up to 60 mph on Colby Avenue.

Around Everett and Wetmore avenues, a detective was able to pin the Honda against a curb.

As one officer came up behind the suspect’s car, the driver appeared to be trying to escape from the passenger side. That’s when the officer pulled up his patrol car and blocked the man’s exit.

The suspect “was pulled over the roof of the car” and taken into custody.

Dalton has previous convictions for burglary, possessing stolen property, drug possession and attempting to elude police.

He was sent to prison after his convictions for possessing heroin and leading police on a long chase that started in Mill Creek in August 2012. Police estimated his car reached 100 mph on I-405. The pursuit ended in Lynnwood.
