Arrest made in fatal shooting at Arlington park

ARLINGTON — Police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting Saturday at Blue Stilly Park, just west of Arlington.

A 41-year-old man from the Tulalip area was being booked into the Snohomish County Jail on Wednesday night for investigation of second-degree murder, drive-by shooting and rioting, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

The victim, Ryan C. Mumm, 20, was shot in the head about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the park. He died Sunday at a local hospital. His family said he was an organ donor.

Mumm attended Arlington schools, graduating from Weston High School in 2010. He had been living in the Spokane area recently and attended Spokane Community College this past spring.

School officials and friends described him as a smiling, laid-back and respectful young man with a loving family and great sense of humor.

Detectives have not shared additional details about the shooting or disclosed a motive.

A person can be convicted of the crime of rioting when they act with three or more others to use or threaten to use force against someone or something. Local prosecutors have filed the charge in the past against people who have engaged in brawls, including incidents that have ended in gunfire or death.
