PORTLAND, Ore. — The Northwest Interagency Fire Coordination Center expects a normal wildfire season this year in Washington, after four years with a below-average number of acres burned.
The center in Portland reported about 20,000 acres burned last year in Washington. The 10-year average is about 128,000 acres.
Much of the rest of the West has been drier than Washington and many states are preparing for an active wildfire season. Colorado had a deadly wildfire last month.
