LAKE GOODWIN — A fundraiser to replace playground equipment destroyed in a suspected arson fire has been scheduled for next weekend.

The Lake Goodwin Community Club and Snohomish County Parks and Recreation are co-hosting a barbecue benefit from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Lake Goodwin Community Park on 4620 Lakewood Road in Stanwood.

Anybody can attend the event for free, but the purpose is to raise money to replace an estimated $100,000 in equipment destroyed in the July 26 fire, including the playground’s popular pirate ship.

Kompan, the company that manufactured the damaged playground equipment, is installing four smaller pieces temporarily. Several local businesses and corporations are supporting the benefit as well. People also can donate by writing to: Snohomish County Parks and Recreation, 6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish, WA, 98296. Specify “Lake Goodwin Community Park Playground.”
