It’s time for barefoot TV.

A one-hour special about Camano Island’s Barefoot Bandit, Colton Harris-Moore, is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. Thursday on A&E’s Biography.

“Witness the remarkable story,” Biography’s Website said.

The show is expected to chronicle Harris-Moore’s “high stakes trail through paradise, and the dramatic showdown with authorities.”

Harris-Moore, 20, pleaded guilty in federal court last month to a multi-state crime spree including plane theft, boat theft, bank burglary and weapons violations.

He earned an international reputation for flying stolen planes despite no formal training and sometimes running barefoot from his crimes. Thousands of people followed Harris-Moore’s criminal exploits on social media sites including Facebook.

His criminal case moves next to Island County Superior Court where he’s expected to answer to state charges before being sentenced in federal court in October. The Coupeville court date hasn’t been set.

While terms of his plea agreement prevent Harris-Moore from profiting off his story, his lawyers are said to be shopping for a movie and book deal to help pay $1.4 million in restitution.

The Biography special was made prior to any such arrangements. It’s based, in part, on my book about the Harris-Moore case, “Fly, Colton, Fly: The True Story of the Barefoot Bandit.” Tonight’s special features interviews filmed at The Herald.

Tonight’s TV special isn’t the first to chronicle Harris-Moore’s story. A 48-Hours Mystery special aired in November.
