Sirens: Is there anything I should NOT do?
Detective John Ernst: Don’t confront a suspect. You could spoil the investigation. Plus, any confession that you might get would be inadmissible in court. Instead, make sure that you identify possible suspects to the police. Remember, a suspect must have motive (a reason to do the crime), means (the ability to do the crime) and opportunity. Just because the kid down the street rides his bike through your flowerbed does not necessarily mean that he’s a burglar.
