Bellingham hit-and-run injures woman

BELLINGHAM — A 29-year-old Custer man is jailed for investigation of hit-and-run and vehicle assault for an accident early Sunday that critically injured a woman in a Bellingham crosswalk.

The Bellingham Herald said that Cory Mezo appeared in Whatcom County Superior Court Monday. Bail was set at $500,000.

Police say Mezo was recklessly spinning a “donut” when he hit a car and the woman. Police say he also hit a parked car speeding away.

The 25-year-old Ferndale woman was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was in critical condition Monday.

The car was found at Western Washington University and Bellingham detectives tracked down the suspect.

Mezo is accused of vehicular assault, three counts of hit and run, and driving with a license suspended.
