Benedict Banay, Marysville Getchell Valedictorian speech
I am both honored and pleased to have this privilege of speaking to all of you. Being up here makes those nights of endless homework and tedious efforts almost worth it. As a class valedictorian, allow me to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the people who, in one way or another, contributed to this success.
Achieving our goals requires will and determination. The difficulties that we face allow us to push ourselves beyond our limitations. We become the best of ourselves. What we think we cannot do is the only thing that could limit us. Having the mindset that we can, what we could do is infinite.
As my cousin once told me, “It is better to endure the hardship of learning than to suffer the bitterness of ignorance.” Ladies and gentlemen, today is the day that honors past achievements and yet hopes for future success. We take a look back at the hardships and obstacles we faced. Expecting it would slow us down and stop us from from achieving our goals. Expecting those roadblocks hindered our path to success. However, we didn’t fold or quit, we paved a new path, our own path to succeed. We reflect on these experiences to commemorate how they made us tougher and more independent, not only as students but young adults. Preparing us for what lies ahead, in our next chapter of life.
Though, this effort was not done alone, we were inspired and encouraged by our beloved family, friends, and teachers, which is why we put on our best efforts to achieve our goals. Their support and motivation made us more passionate to do things beyond what we are capable of. They believed in us more than we believed in ourselves.
