OLYMPIA — A political action group formed by California billionaire Tom Steyer has given $750,000 to a Washington state environmental political action committee.
Campaign finance reports show Washington Conservation Voters Action Fund received two contributions from NextGen Climate Action Committee late last week.
The conservation voters group has spent nearly $351,000 on paid canvassers to support Democrats in two key legislative races.
In Pierce County, the canvassing will support Democrat Rep. Tami Green over incumbent Republican Sen. Steve O’Ban. In King County, the group is supporting Democratic challenger Matt Isenhower over the Senate’s main Republican budget writer, Sen. Andy Hill.
Those two races are among a handful that could decide control of the 49-member Senate, which is currently controlled by a coalition of 24 Republicans and two Democrats.
