Boeing, United Way team to help five nonprofits

EVERETT — The Boeing Co. and United Way of Snohomish County are working together to help five local nonprofits adopt better business-management techniques.

United Way will administer the program using $25,000 in grants from Boeing, according to a news release.

Senior Services of Snohomish County, the Center for Human Services, Work Opportunities, Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County and the Interfaith Association each will receive $5,000.

Each group will be assigned a Boeing volunteer to work on streamlining services such as billing, transportation and communications.

The grants could help improve meal delivery for some of the nonprofits, or increase the number of people helped, for example.

United Way has adopted similar principles, known in business circles as “Lean,” and Boeing has helped it train staff and has offered technical support and encouragement, president Dennis Smith said.
