PROSSER — Mellow at home, Buckey the bull knows he’s a star when he’s trying to ditch a professional bull rider.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that the seven-year-old, 1,800-pound crossbred bull from Prosser provided the championship ride last weekend for Brazilian cowboy Valdiron de Olivera. The scene was the Professional Bull Riders 15/15 Bucking Battle in Sacramento, Calif. Broadcast by NBC, the competition also profiled Buckey as the “Pick of the Pen.”

In bull riding, judges score bulls on how aggressively they move and how high they kick. The tougher the bull, the better the cowboy does — if he stays on.

In his three-year career, Buckey has thrown 15 of 19 riders.

His owner Craig Wentz says Buckey’s good to be around at home, “but when he gets around the events, he starts putting his game face on.”
