PORT ANGELES — Law enforcement officers in Port Angeles are angry that someone broadcast a false report of an “officer-involved shooting” over a police radio frequency.
The hoax call Saturday night came six days after four Lakewood police officers were gunned down in the Tacoma suburb of Parkland.
The Peninsula Daily News said the false report from an unknown source was made over the Port Angeles police radio frequency and said the shooting had occurred at a city restaurant. Officers from the police department and three other agencies converged on the restaurant with guns drawn, but found no crime had been committed.
Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said a criminal investigation has been opened and investigators are determined to find who was responsible.
