Child who died after being run over identified

EVERETT — A child who died Friday night after being run over in Everett has been identified as Malana Lai.

She was one and a half years old, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident happened as the girl’s father was backing out of the family’s driveway about 5 p.m. Friday in a cul-de-sac off SW Everett Mall Way, according to Everett police.

Detectives conducted an investigation. No criminal charges are expected in the case, police spokesman Aaron Snell said Wednesday.

“We believe it was a tragic accident,” he said.
