Sailors volunteer to help New Moon Farm

Sailors from USS Rodney M. Davis, a frigate based at Naval Station Everett, spent Aug. 16 at the New Moon Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary in Arlington.

Goat farm owner Ellen Felsenthal had the sailors split and stack wood, control weeds, burn grass out of a gravel driveway, spread 12 yards of new gravel, repair and replace 200 feet of fencing, shore up fence posts, dig a 100-foot drainage ditch and repair a gate.

Clothes for Kids has busy start to school year

After months of preparation, Clothes For Kids re-opened for back-to-school clothing distribution Aug. 22. Eight days later, the Lynnwood-based nonprofit organization had handed out 766 wardrobes to children.

That’s about 150 more children served than last year.

Clothes for Kids volunteers estimate that about 16,850 items of clothing and shoes were given to children so far this school year.

Especially needed are clothes for teen boys such as boxer briefs, jeans, shirts and coats. To donate, go to
