Volunteer: Help out Providence Hospice

A free information session to review the volunteer opportunities at Providence Hospice and Home Care is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. April 21 in Everett.

Nominate: Great students are sought

The Youth Challenge Awards Committee of the Lynnwood Rotary Club needs help finding students who deserve recognition.

Seventh- through 12th-grade Snohomish County students can be nominated for community service, courage, creativity, environmental service, inspiration, leadership or by group. The deadline is Wednesday.

Donate: Darrington scholarship fund

The Dr. N.C. Riddle Scholarship Committee is asking for donations to the 2010 scholarship fund.

Donations to the fund enabled the committee to award scholarships to four graduating seniors in Darrington and sponsor the continuing education of seven returning students.

Learn: Citizens academy starts soon

The Mountlake Terrace Police Department will soon start its police citizens academy. The free 12-week program meets on Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. April 14 through June 30 at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W.

The deadline to apply for the academy is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Space is limited to the first 30 people accepted. Training sessions include information and demonstrations by K-9, SWAT, narcotics, records and evidence handling, and a ride-along with an officer. Applicants must sign a waiver authorizing a background check for acceptance into the program.

Celebrate: Family fun at free fair

Families with young children are invited to a free family fun fair on April 10 at Forest Park in Everett.

The celebration, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer outdoor stage entertainment, roving performers, educational programs and other activities for families.

The family fun fair is sponsored by United Way of Snohomish County, Snohomish County Association for the Education of Young Children and Everett Parks and Recreation. Forest Park is located at 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.

Volunteer: Senior volunteers wanted

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program sponsored by Catholic Community Services seeks people who are older than 55 for volunteer opportunities in the community.

As an RSVP enrollee, a volunteer receives free supplemental liability, accident and automobile insurance coverage while performing volunteer duties along with an ongoing personal recognition program and the chance to meet new people and learn new skills.

RSVP helps match a volunteer’s lifetime of skills and experience to the organization of their choice.
