Celebrate: Sultan Shindig coming up
The 2013 Sultan Shindig, a community festival, will be held July 12-14 in downtown Sultan.
The annual event celebrates Sultan’s logging history and includes a carnival, food, crafts and live entertainment. A logging contest includes spar-pole climbing and ax throwing. There also is a parade.

Admire: Italian beauties in Lynnwood
The Alderwood-Terrace Rotary Club’s annual classic, sports and muscle car show, Concours d’Elegance at The Wood, is set for 1-5 p.m. July 13 on the 18th fairway of the Lynnwood Golf Course, 20400 68th Ave. W.
See 60 hand-picked cars, including Bentleys, Rolls Royces, Packards, Mercedes and some of the most exotic Italian cars and motorcycles in the region at this Classic Car Club of America national points event. Entry is $10.
A gala and auction also will be held, 6-10 p.m. July 12 in Woodway Hall at Edmonds Community College. Tickets for the gala are $100.
Proceeds benefit the Rotary Club’s local, national and international charity efforts.

Tour: Pilchuck Glass School opens campus
Pilchuck Glass School opens its scenic Stanwood campus, situated on a former tree farm, for a special open house event, 12-5 p.m. July 14. Advanced registration is required. Admission is $20, $10 for children ages 6-12; ages 5 and younger are free.
Watch hot glass demonstrations, get a docent-led tour and browse the gallery. Hands-on glass activities and an off-the-beaten-path tour — including visits to the Chihuly Cabin and Buster Simpson’s tree house — are available for added fees. Concessions available.

Help: Give wildlife hands-on care
PAWS Wildlife Center in Lynnwood seeks volunteer wildlife care assistants to spend time cleaning and preparing cages, doing laundry and dishes, preparing food, assisting staff with medical care, moving wildlife, sweeping and mopping.
In the spring and summer, duties also include hand-feeding young mammals.
Experienced volunteers are given the opportunity to learn advanced animal handling and medical skills, including gavage (tube) feeding, handling raptors (i.e., owls, hawks), administering oral medications, and giving subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
Volunteers are asked to work weekly shifts of four to five hours for a minimum of three months. Training is required.

Walk: Tulalip Great Strides set for July 13
The Tulalip Great Strides walk to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is set for July 13. It is the only Snohomish County location for the national fundraising effort.
Teams are invited to sign up at www.cff.org/great_strides. Check-in is at 9 a.m.; the walk starts at 10 a.m. from the Tulalip Amphitheatre, 10400 Quil Ceda Blvd. Pledges also are sought for existing teams and walkers; local teams include Keldan’s Team, Brenna’s Butterflies, Tulalip Lions Club Team, and the Marysville Wrestling Team.
The 3-mile walk follows a flat course from the amphitheatre past the outlet mall, around the back of the casino and back to the amphitheatre for lunch and entertainment. The local fundraiser was started by Kelsie Dry and Brandy Krug, both parents of children with cystic fibrosis.
Serve: Board of Equalization
The Island County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants to fill three positions on the Board of Equalization, which deals with taxpayer petitions for property tax equalization. Members serve three-year terms.
Training is required. Members are paid $100 for each day of active service.
