Listen: Support nonprofit music hall

The Snohomish County Music Teachers Association plans a piano benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Everett Music Hall located inside the Everett Mall, 1402 SE Everett Mall Way. Private-lesson music teachers from around the county are volunteering to play for the benefit of the Everett Music Hall, a nonprofit community-performance facility. Suggested donation is $10.

Hoedown: Concert aims to save the grange

The South End String Band plays a benefit concert for the South Camano Grange from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 22. The grange is at 2227 South Camano Drive, Camano Island. Suggested donation is $5. Beer, wine and desserts also available for purchase.

Old-time fiddle music “with wet powder wit and moonshine wisdom” aims to please the crowd. Proceeds will help save the grange.

The concert dovetails with the sixth annual Harvest Jubilee Festival &Farm Tour, Sept. 22-23, in Stanwood, Camano and Silvana.

Walk: Make strides against breast cancer

The 2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of North Sound is set for 9:30-11 a.m. Sept. 30, starting from the Snohomish County Courthouse Plaza, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The 3-mile walk honors breast cancer survivors and raises awareness about prevention in addition to raising money for the American Cancer Society.

There is no registration fee and no minimum fundraising required. Animals are welcome; see the pet registration form online.

Cheer: See a game, help Housing Hope

The Everett Silvertips have teamed with BECU and Housing Hope for a promotional event at their season opener Saturday. Everett based-nonprofit Housing Hope will receive a portion of every $15 ticket purchased through the Silvertips group ticket website for the “Fill the House” promotion.

The last day to purchase tickets at the special price is Thursday.

Nominate: Do you know a real hero?

The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross seeks nominations for the annual Real Heroes awards. Real Heroes are everyday people who expressed extraordinary courage.

Do you know someone who saved a life, gave of themselves to help another or did something truly remarkable in the past year? The deadline for nominations is Sept. 30. Heroes will be honored Dec. 6.

Serve: Mill Creek parks board has openings

Mill Creek has two full-term vacancies and one mid-term vacancy available on its Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

The full-term appointments expire Oct. 31, 2015. The mid-term appointment expires Oct. 31, 2013. Meetings are held at 5 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month. Members must live in the city.

Apply: City seeks youth representative

The Edmonds City Council is looking for students interested in serving on the city’s Economic Development Commission.

This appointment will be for a one academic year. The student representative participates in discussions and comments but does not vote. Community service hours can be arranged.

Applicants must be 16-25 years old and live in Edmonds, among other requirements. Pick up an application in the lobby of City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N., or call 425-771-0247.

Vote: Nonprofits vie for cash

Several Snohomish County nonprofits are hoping to garner votes to receive grant funding in an online contest from Chase Community Giving.

Two of those nonprofits, Cocoon House and Clothes For Kids, have teamed to combine their votes in hopes of improving their chances. Cocoon House, of Everett, provides services to at-risk and homeless youth and their families in Snohomish County. Clothes For Kids, of Lynnwood, provides back-to-school wardrobes to low-income Snohomish County students.
