SNOHOMISH — It looked like any Christmas card the Snohomish Senior Center receives during the season.
It was in a red envelope and heavier than the rest. The woman who delivered it did not sign the registration sheet, which most everyone does when they enter the building at 506 Fourth St.
The reason for the extra weight was clear after Executive Director Bod Dvorak opened it.
Inside there were five $100 crisp bills.
It was just the latest example of the community helping out the center, he said.
The center has received many donations after news broke that more than $2,000 was stolen during a fundraiser in early December. Members and people in the community have given small donations since then to make up for what was stolen.
This one has been the biggest single donation yet, Dvorak said.
The woman arrived in a car driven by a man just before the center closed at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The woman wasn’t recognized by the receptionist, who described her as a pleasant and petite young senior.
The card read how she and her husband were sorry about the theft.
“I hope this helps. With kindness.”
Her generosity shows “the Christmas Spirit is alive and well in Snohomish,” Dvorak said.
Dvorak said he respects the woman’s wish to remain anonymous.
He hopes, however, the couple contacts him so he can personally thank them.
Now, the card will be displayed on the bulletin board alongside all Christmas cards the center receives.
“It will be right in the center,” Dvorak said.
