Crews attack central Wash. wildfires

MANSFIELD — The state is sending help to Douglas County firefighters who have been battling two wildfires near Mansfield in central Washington.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Bill Slosson said about a dozen firefighters have been dispatched Monday and a management team of about 20 people is setting up a command post at Mansfield High School.

A fire that broke out Sunday three miles southwest of Mansfield has burned about 2,000 acres of grass, brush and some wheat. About six people have been evacuated from three threatened homes.

Another fire that broke out Sunday about 15 miles northwest of Mansfield has burned about 75 acres. It threatens 25 homes, but none have been evacuated.

Slosson said a little rain overnight may have helped the situation.
