Deadline extended for pot licenses

OLYMPIA — The state is giving potential pot entrepreneurs an extra day to seek a business license to grow, process or sell marijuana.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board announced Friday that the window for submitting applications for a license will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 20. That is one day later than previously announced.

The change is needed to make sure the board complies with the rules it adopted rules for the legal marijuana industry. Those rules took effect Nov. 21 and call for a 30-day period for applications to be turned in. That means the window would run through Dec. 20.

As of Tuesday, the state liquor board had received 1,326 applications for licenses including 139 from Snohomish County. Of the county’s total, 19 are from those wishing to operate a retail store while 49 are for processing and 81 for growing.
