EVERETT — Crews will demolish the remaining section of the 112th Street SE bridge over I-5 this weekend, resulting in several closures of all northbound lanes during the work. Traffic will be detoured from 128th Street SE to Highway 527.
On Saturday, crews will close two northbound lanes at 11 p.m. and the remaining lanes at midnight.
One lane will reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday. All lanes will reopen by noon Sunday.
On Sunday and Monday nights, two lanes will close at 9 p.m., a third lane at 11 p.m. and all lanes by midnight.
All but one lane will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. both mornings.
Each night, crews will also close 112th Street SE where it crosses over I-5.
Drivers should make note of the detour and be ready for potential delays, said Laura Johnson, communications director for the state Department of Transportation.
“It’s the middle of the night, so we’re expecting there to not be much traffic,” Johnson said. “But drivers should be aware.”
The work is part of a $41 million Sound Transit and city of Everett effort to widen 112th Street SE and build a park-and-ride in the middle of the freeway just north of 112th Street SE.
The project includes building direct access ramps into the park-and-ride from carpool lanes on I-5. Noncarpool traffic will access the park-and-ride from new ramps being built off of 112th Street SE.
Bruce Gray of Sound Transit said drivers should check the WSDOT Web site, www.wsdot.wa.gov, for updates on construction. Doing so will help them avoid major construction like this weekend’s, he said.
“It is an inconvenience for drivers,” he said. “We appreciate their patience.”
The work is scheduled to finish in 2008.
