WOODWAY — Snohomish County hearing examiner Peter Camp on Wednesday declined to give a developer more time to submit plans for a high-rise condo project proposed for industrial land on Puget Sound.
Camp ruled that he had no jurisdiction to push back the current June 30 deadline — for now, at least. The examiner could revisit the issue once he presides over a hearing on the project, tentatively set to start May 16.
BSRE Point Wells requested the extension to refine its plans for more than 3,000 condo units in towers of up to 17 stories. The company, a subsidiary of Blue Square Real Estate, submitted its project application seven years ago, but contends it needs more time to finish its proposal because it spent more than three years in legal fights surrounding the project.
County planners this month informed BSRE that they intend to recommend that Camp deny the project. They said the developer needs to demonstrate it has met criteria to double building heights to 180 feet, instead of the normal limit of 90. Parking, transportation and landslide hazards also need attention.
