Doctor, daughter presumed dead in Fox Island fire

FOX ISLAND — Firefighters have found one body in the debris of a Fox Island waterfront home where a doctor and his 8-year-old daughter were trapped by flames.

Gig Harbor fire department spokesman Eric Waters wouldn’t say initially whether the body was of Dr. Thomas Babson or his daughter.

He said firefighters are continuing to look for the second body, propping up walls that are in danger of falling down.

The doctor’s wife and two other children escaped from the fire Wednesday night with the help of a neighbor and were treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire continued to smolder Thursday afternoon.
