Drugs may have been draw in Everett robbery

EVERETT — Police seized heroin, marijuana and apparent drug ledgers from a north Everett house where a man was shot and wounded in a home-invasion robbery over the weekend, according to court papers.

Two masked men armed with handguns kicked in the back door of the tan home in the 2500 block of Walnut Street around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Neither attacker had been arrested by Thursday evening. The case remains under investigation.

A man who was shot in the neck during the encounter was arrested Tuesday by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for investigation of two counts of drug possession unrelated to Sunday’s shooting, officials said. He also was picked up on a warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm. He was treated at an Everett hospital Sunday and released the same day.

The man said he was sleeping when he was confronted in his room.

“He says he doesn’t know who they are,” Everett police officer Aaron Snell said. “We have been unable to get enough information together to have a clear picture of who the suspects are.”

One of the assailants struck another resident inside the home with his handgun and punched him in the face, according to court papers.

The man who was struck and a roommate were ordered to get on the floor.

The pair fled when they heard a gunshot and the man watching them went to check the back room.

The gunshot apparently was fired by the other robber at the man who wound up with a bullet wound.

One of the people inside the home when the robbery occurred told police that the house might have been targeted because he sells heroin and another person living there sells marijuana, according to a search warrant affidavit.

A police dog tried to track the suspects, but lost the scent nearby.

Anybody with information about the case is asked to call the Everett police tip line at 425-257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.
