EVERETT — A multi-car wreck that snarled traffic on I-5 northbound near 41st Street SE this afternoon is being investigated as the possible result of drunken driving, the Washington State Patrol reported.
State Troopers arrested a man who was driving one of at least five vehicles involved in the crash, Trooper Keith Leary said. The man was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center’s Colby campus for treatment of injuries, including cuts. Word on other injuries wasn’t immediately available.
The wreck at 3:05 p.m. initially closed down all lanes of the freeway, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. An hour later, only one lane was shut down.
The crash comes ahead of stepped up enforcement scheduled for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
