Bowl for Jerry’s Kids
A U.S. Postal Service Bowl-a-Thon begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at Robin Hood Lanes, 9801 Edmonds Way in Edmonds.
Proceeds will go to Jerry’s Kids.
There also will be a silent auction.
To contribute, leave a donation in an envelope marked MDA in your mailbox and your letter carrier will pick it up for the cause, as they do with food bank donations in May.
Author to talk about Wellington disaster: Local writer and photographer Martin Burwash plans to discuss his novel, “Vis Major,” about the Wellington avalanche of 1910 at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
The program is free.
The Wellington avalanche was one of the worst train disasters in U.S. history. An avalanche near Stevens Pass swept away two snowbound Great Northern trains, killing 96 people.
Scholarship offered: The Marysville Rock and Gem Club is offering a $500 scholarship to a sophomore majoring in an earth science-related program.
The student must be enrolled at a college or university in Western Washington. Judging criteria includes goals, need and intent to continue studying the earth sciences.
