EDMONDS — After a five-week absence following lung surgery, City Councilwoman Adrienne Fraley-Monillas re-joined her colleagues on the dais this week.

Fraley-Monillas, 51, was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer. Surgeons removed portions of her right lung in September.

She began her four-year term on the council in January, after winning a seat in the November 2009 election.

She said she’ll begin four months of chemotherapy next week.

Last November, Edmonds City Councilwoman Peggy Pritchard Olson died after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. She had served on the council for six years.
