EVERETT — More than 100 people gathered on Everett’s waterfront to march Saturday morning, one of numerous events across the country calling for action on climate change.
The marches coincide with President Donald Trump’s 100th day in office. Locals said they’re worried about proposed cuts to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the placement of Scott Pruitt at its helm.
There were dogs on leashes, friends wearing pink “pussyhats” made popular by women’s marches, and kids in strollers or wagons. Signs boasted bright colors and handwritten messages. One said, “Alt energy not alt facts.” Another: “There is no Planet B.”
The march started around 10 a.m. near the boat launch on 10th Street.
Ashley Sims of Everett brought her 3-year-old and 8-month-old children to the march. She’s worried about the president’s environmental policies, she said, and wants people to pay attention.
Earl and Andrea Vaughan of Camano Island said they participate in as many protests against Trump’s policies as they can.
“It’s time to step up,” Earl Vaughan said.
