EVERETT — Even if budgets are tight, families can still get into the Christmas spirit at a free holiday celebration downtown tomorrow.

The city of Everett is hosting Wintertide, its annual holiday celebration beginning at 3 p.m. Friday at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.

From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. children can work on a holiday arts-and-craft project as well as enjoy cookies and hot cocoa.

The Navy Band Brass Quintet plans to give a free performance at 3:30 p.m.

Later at 7 p.m., the Navy Band also plans a free holiday concert. A similar concert last year packed the house so organizers recommend people come early for a seat.

Santa plans to make an appearance, too.

This is the third year of Wintertide. The city wants to draw people downtown to shop but the celebration is about more than stimulating holiday sales, said Carol Thomas, cultural arts manager.

“It brings parents together with their kids,” she said.
