Whidbey Island community Martin Luther King Jr. event: A “Blessed Be the Peace Makers” event will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, 5217 Honeymoon Bay Road, Freeland. Free refreshments served an hour before the event in the parish hall. Speaking will be Ora Houston, a leader in the Union of Black Episcopalians. The singing of civil rights anthems and traditional African-American spirituals will be part of the service. Music minister Karl Olsen, of Freeland’s Trinity Lutheran Church, will lead the singing. There will be a free-will offering for Helping Hand; food donations also accepted.
Temple Beth Or: An annual Tu B’Shevat celebration of the Jewish new year that recognizes trees will be held the evening of Feb. 7 at Everett’s Temple Beth Or.
