Missions raffle: Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church of Startup is selling $1 raffle tickets for a large doll house; proceeds benefit missions programs. The next event at which to buy raffle tickets is at the Sultan Shindig, which continues today and Sunday. The three-story, 18th-century-style doll house features a shake-covered roof and turret, operational windows and doors, and Victorian furniture. Tickets also are sold at local businesses. Garage sale: Zion Lutheran Church in Snohomish holds a huge garage sale, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 18-19 at 330 Union Ave. All proceeds go toward purchasing yarn for chemotherapy caps and for maintenance of a van that is used for community services.
Summer choir: Lutheran Choral Association of Snohomish County, an ecumenical summer choir, invites singers of all denominations to join in singing praises to God, 7-9 p.m. Mondays through Sept. 1 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 9320 Meadow Way, Everett. Muslims join parade: A team of more than 40 Bothell-area Muslims took part in the 2014 Bothell 4th of July Parade. The Muslim team carried banners, U.S. flags, and included families with young children, activists, U.S. military veterans, doctors, nurses and community leaders. Many participants wore T-shirts with U.S. flags and handed out candy to parade watchers. “We want our neighbors to learn more about their Muslim neighbors,” said Syed G. Mustafa, a Bothell resident and organizer of the Muslim contingent. “We are productive members of society and proud Americans.”
