Special welcome: Spirit of Grace United Methodist Church will hold two special worship services Sunday away from its church to welcome the wider community. The church is at 3530 Colby Ave. in Everett, but at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services will be held at the Inn at Port Gardner, 1700 W. Marine View Drive, Everett.
“Abandonment &Doubt:” Lynnwood’s Trinity Lutheran Church will host Peter Rollins, a writer, lecturer and storyteller, at “A Weekend with Peter Rollins: Abandonment &Doubt, The Unexplored Virtues” on Aug. 3-4. Tickets are $50, $40 for students, or $25 and $20 for one day. Rollins, founder of the faith group Ikon of Northern Ireland, will explore how art is used to express faith, darkness and anxiety. Also participating will be singer-songwriter Phil Nellis, a Seattle pastor and adjunct professor at the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, and Trinity Lutheran Church co-pastor Paul Sundberg. Two faiths together: The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, Seattle Chapter, which has a center in Lynnwood, and Temple B’nai Torah in Bellevue will come together to observe the Muslim fast of Ramadan and the Jewish fast of Tisha B’av at 7 p.m. Sunday at the temple, 15727 NE Fourth St., Bellevue. There will be a combined evening service of breaking the fast together, a presentation on Ramadam, and Holy Quran and Torah exhibitions.
Garage sale: Zion Lutheran Church in Snohomish will host a church garage sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 3-4. The church is at 330 Union Ave., Snohomish. Proceeds will buy yarn to make chemotherapy caps that church members donate to clinics and hospitals.
Harpist in Snohomish: Harpist Bronn Journey will play at concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish, 1306 Lake View Ave. The public is welcome at the concert sponsored by the church’s Fellowship Division. Rock the Block Party: View Ridge Community Church, 4800 Dogwood Drive, Everett, will host a Rock the Block Party 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 25. The public is invited for a free barbecue, kids’ haircuts and mini-spa treatments for mothers. Christian preschool: Oak Harbor Christian School is accepting applications for its Little Eagles preschool program, which offers two-day, three-day and five-day programs for children ages 3 to 5. Unity sermon: “A New Way of Being” is the topic of a sermon to be presented by Steve Towles at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Everett Unity Center for Positive Living. A Unity minister for 28 years, Towles served at churches in Seattle and Edgewood, Wash., and in Nevada and California. Salt of the Earth Soup Kitchen: noon Tuesdays at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Free sack lunches or hot meals served to the homeless, low-income seniors and families, and kids on the street.
