Father charged with 1st-degree murder in infant’s death

OCEAN SHORES — The charge against a man accused of killing his newborn baby daughter at Ocean Shores has been upgraded to first-degree murder.

Patrick Parnel had been charged with second-degree murder.

KXRO radio reported the charge was amended Tuesday and the 21-year-old was rebooked into the Grays Harbor County Jail with bail doubling to $1 million.

Parnel is accused of beating the baby to death April 3 and leaving her body in a wooded area after she was born in a motel.

Parnel’s girlfriend, 21-year-old Brittany Taylor, is charged with abandonment of a dependent person.

Court documents say they went to the motel because they didn’t want anyone to know Taylor was about to deliver.
